Today’s Talking Point 11/06/09
Why are we working so hard?
“It is estimated that 10% of all the homeless in this country are the direct result of a foreclosure.” – The Wall Street Journal
“While current national data are not available, the number of schoolchildren in homeless families appears to have risen by 75 percent to 100 percent in many districts over the last two years, according to Barbara Duffield, policy director of the National Association for the Education of Homeless Children and Youth, an advocacy group.” – The New York Times
As I travel across the country, many people ask me how I keep up my energy. Between being away from my family, living out of a suitcase and sharing my message almost on a daily basis, it can be tiring.
What keeps me going? It is really quite simple. What is the alternative? Real estate professionals in each and every state are fighting this horrible economy.
Are they working hard in order to provide for their families? Of course.
Is that the only reason? NO!
The true professionals know that we are working hard to help many of our neighbors get through tough times. Realtors understand that they are responsible for saving the neighborhoods we live in from the wrath of foreclosures. They are out there every day telling their clients the truth and helping them move on with their lives. It isn’t easy. But, it must be done.
Why am I on the road almost every day? I am trying, in my own small way , to help these real estate professionals communicate what is taking place and perhaps giving some inspiration along the way. And maybe, just maybe, by doing this, we can keep a few kids from having to sleep in a shelter tonight instead of their own bed.
